How to Care for Gerbera Daisies in a Vase

Before placing your gerbera daisies in fresh water, clean the vase with hot, soapy water and ensure no soap residue is left behind. Gerbera daisies are quite sensitive to bacteria, so changing their water daily and keeping their vase and surrounding areas clean is crucial. Trimming their stems each day at a 45-degree angle and removing any foliage that falls below the waterline will also help keep your gerbera daisies fresher longer.

With the proper TLC, some gerbera daisies can last up to two weeks in a vase! As you find the perfect place to display these bold, cheerful blooms, steer clear of drafty areas, like air conditioners, heaters, stoves, and windows, as well as direct sunlight.

Gerbera daisies belong to the largest plant family in the world (Asteraceae), along with shasta daisies, sunflowers, and chrysanthemums. Since this family is so big and diverse, every daisy should be treated with unique care.

Pro Tip:

Besides bacteria, gerbera daisies are also sensitive to ethylene gas produced by fruits. For this reason, we suggest keeping fresh-cut daisies out of areas where fruit is displayed, like the kitchen or dining table.
